The three-volume set of anatomies by the main author, Prof. Radomír Čihák, MD, DrSc., is considered one of the highlights of our professional literature, both in terms of didactic and illustrative aspects and in terms of precision and execution.

This volume is divided into three separate volumes at the request of the authors and students, which gives the reader more possibilities to use the extensive publication in teaching or practice.

Excellent textbooks that have been in demand by both faculty and clinical departments for many years. Because of the continuing interest, the authors are constantly adding new findings in the field to the work. The set is considered a cornerstone for lifelong learning in both theoretical and pre- and clinical areas of medicine. The entire multi-volume didactic publication has not yet been surpassed in our country in its professional level and is regularly updated according to current knowledge. All volumes are richly illustrated in color with original illustrations totaling 1400, often consisting of multiple drawings.

About the Author

Čihák Radomír

Prof. MUDr. Radomír Čihák, DrSc. was an important representative of the Prague school of anatomy. The focus of his scientific work lies in the anatomy and embryology of the musculoskeletal system and his approach to understanding the laws of the anatomical structure of organs is therefore based on the study of their development. The subject of his observations was primarily the human limb. He described the various stages of the development of its skeleton and muscles and found hitherto unknown relationships between the development of the human limb and the historical development of the vertebrate limb. He was able to use the anatomical knowledge resulting from his studies of the development of muscles and their innervation for clinical medicine. He became a sought-after collaborator of orthopaedists and surgeons. In 1970-1990 he was the head of the Anatomical Institute of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, to which he remained faithful throughout his life. He worked as an emeritus professor, anatomist, author of publications and translations, and also devoted himself to the University of the Third Age. He also participated in its organization on a national scale. He was in personal contact with the staff of a number of anatomical institutes in the German Democratic Republic, GDR, France, Austria, Poland, the USSR and the Netherlands. He lectured in these countries at congresses of anatomical societies and contributed significantly to the development of international contacts of Czechoslovak anatomy.
