BCAAs make up a significant portion of all the amino acids that make up muscle tissue. Under the influence of intense physical stress, the energy reserve formed by glycogen is depleted and energy production from branched-chain amino acids begins. This unfavourable situation can be prevented by administering branched chain amino acids (BCAA).

Substances under scrutiny
Leucine is one of the essential amino acids that the body cannot produce and must be taken in the diet. It has several functions - it supports the maintenance of blood glucose levels, counteracts the catabolic process and participates in the synthesis of muscle proteins. It also regulates blood sugar levels, is involved in the growth and regeneration of muscle and bone tissues and in the production of growth hormone. It protects against loss of protein in muscle mass after injury or due to stress.
Isoleucine is a branched chain essential amino acid (absorbed directly into the muscle) is commonly associated with increased endurance and healing of muscle tissue, so it is recommended for athletes, bodybuilders and others who undergo greater physical exertion and who want to increase the volume of their muscle mass.
Valine is one of the amino acids that are part of elastin, a collagen-like protein that is the main component of elastic fibers in animal tissues. Valine also affects the absorption of certain neurotransmitters in the brain similar to tryptophan, phenylalanine and tyrosine. It provides the compound succinylCoA for an important biochemical reaction referred to as the Krebs cycle. It supports the effects of Leucine and Isoleucine.
