Liposomes are made from pure phospholipids isolated from sunflower lecithin. They can vary in size from a few nanometers to tens of micrometers. When combined with water, phospholipids form microscopic structures with a water-filled cavity in the middle, surrounded by a phospholipid shell. The water in the middle of the phospholipid can then dissolve other molecules, such as a vitamin or glutathione, which we need to easily absorb into the body. And while hydrophilic (water-attracting) molecules can be kept inside the encapsulated core, hydrophobic (water-repelling) substances can dissolve into the phospholipid membrane itself - in this way, liposomes can transport both hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules.
