Calcium is involved in a large number of functions in the body, but primarily it forms bone. In addition, its properties are related to energy metabolism and neuromuscular activity. The same applies to magnesium. Although it is not a direct bone building substance, it is largely stored in the bones. If the body is deficient in it, especially for the daily maintenance of cellular energy production, it takes it from the bones. And this can be the beginning of the problem, especially in older people or athletes. Zinc is an element whose properties are related to building bone mass - its activity is related to calcitriol (the active form of vitamin D).

Why is malic acid and vitamin used in the supplement? Calcium, magnesium and zinc together form a synergistic combination to support bone health. But what are malic acid and vitamin C for? It's simple - malic acid acts as a so-called chelating agent in the stomach. It reacts with inorganic forms of minerals (oxides and carbonates) and breaks their inorganic bonds. It then either forms a new organic compound called malate or allows the inorganic substances to chelate and bind to another available organic component, such as citric acid, which is also in the product.

Calcium carbonate, which is contained in the supplement, has an absorption rate of around 4-5 % on its own. When malic acid is added, the absorption increases to about 30-40 %. The content of minerals in both the chelated (organic) and inorganic forms is therefore intentional - thanks to the use of a chelating agent, the oxide forms have superior absorption (whereas in poor quality products they are contained alone and therefore have very low absorption).

The properties of vitamin C are related to the synthesis of collagen, which is one of the building blocks of bones, ligaments and tendons. L-ascorbic acid is also able to bind with calcium to form calcium ascorbate, an absorbable form of calcium.
